INTRODUCTION TO USING STROBES

light modifiers– they are Reflecting umbrellas that produce a diffused and soft light due to the larger size of the reflecting surface.

Light sources-A head and power pack kit consists of the flash head and a small power pack that acts as the generator that supplies energy to the flash head.

softboxes-The difference between reflecting umbrellas and softboxes is that the spread of light with a softbox is more contained.

grips and stands-i believe grips are used to support light modifiers and backdrops. same goes for the stands both types come in varying sizes, lengths, and prices.

Honeycomb grids–  this grid are basically honeycomb shaped metallic grids that direct the light for a more focused spread. These come in different degrees.

Barn doors– barn doors are flaps surrounding a strobe that can be opened or closed to control the light and prevent it from spilling.

Flags– these are another type of light modifiers. A flag is any kind of opaque object placed in the way of light to better direct it.

Snoots- snoots  are conical shaped tools that narrow the distribution of light. These can be used to produce a very focused, harsh light.

C- stand- These are stands that are heavy duty and very stable they are strong enough to hold backgrounds and seemless white paper in addition to lights.

Monolights–  are compact substitutes for a power pack/flash head combinations. Their size limits their power, but they are often desired for their portability.

jpeg vs raw

  1. the main difference between raw and jpeg is the sizes of the file, one is bigger and one is smaller

2.  raw makes the files more bigger than jpeg.

3. i also think you can not change the raw to a jpeg because  it should be programed into the digital camera.

4. if i was shooting pictures  i would choose raw because i would want my files to be more bigger and it holds all the original details so you have more control over what you do with it.
